Reddit is not the first social media giant alleged of allowing questionable material to be submitted by site users without addressing it. Twittergate: More ‘massive child porn rings’ emerge on following shock discovery – Daily Star
Daily Star Online revealed how thousands of sick accounts hosting graphic images had been exposed by a gamer known only as Molly in an incident dubbed “Twittergate” online.
The indecent images of boys and girls, often accompanied by the caption “legalise 14”, were flagged to Twitter.
Twitter has yet to make comment in response to the claims.
The aim of this sub-reddit is to be as free and laxed as possible. However, for this subreddit to not be banned, we do have to keep within Reddit’s rules.
- No child sexual abuse imagery. (Abuse is defined by sexual acts with a person under 18.)
- No Content that encourages or promotes pedophilia. (Unfortunately this is very ambiguous and really, it’s subject to interpretation. I’ve emailed Reddit to ask where they stand exactly on this)
A Reddit user /u/casseeburn recently wrote about their frustration in multiple subreddits, but some of their posts have been removed. /u/casseeburn called on Reddit CEO Steve Huffman to resign for allowing such subreddits to exist and not following up with complaints:
/u/casseeburn also addressed these subreddits that are alleged to have questionable activity: /r/PedoFriends and /r/PedoChat. /u/casseeburn provided an archived link to an user post in the /r/Pedo101 subreddit: http://archive.is/lA1Cy; “Me and my friend“:
Here are some comments/post that we found on the subreddit /r/Pedo101:
Archived: http://archive.is/eHUt4; “What laws would you want to change?”:
Archived: http://archive.is/MK92n; “Isn’t it funny that illegally downloading movies without paying is harmful to the movie industry, but illegally downloading child porn without paying supports the child porn industry?”:

Pedophilia is considered a paraphilia, an “abnormal or unnatural attraction.” Pedophilia is defined as the fantasy or act of sexual activity with prepubescent children. Pedophiles are usually men, and can be attracted to either or both sexes. How well they relate to adults of the opposite sex varies.
Perpetrators often delude themselves into viewing their actions as helpful to children. They might tell themselves they are contributing to a child’s development or that the child is enjoying the act; however, they do tell their victims not to alert their parents or authorities.
An estimated 20 percent of American children have been sexually molested, making pedophilia the most common paraphilia. Offenders are usually family friends or relatives. Types of activities vary and may include just looking at a child or undressing and touching a child. However, acts often do involve oral sex or touching of genitals of the child or offender. Studies suggest that children who feel uncared for or lonely may be at higher risk.
The term “loli” according to Urban Dictionary:
Why is a moderator of the subreddit /r/PedoFriends username “LittleLoli” ?
The term “lolicon” was used. According to Urban Dictionary:
Take note of the age of the Reddit users profiles mentioned above. They have been active several years.
We could not access the subreddit /r/PedoChat due to access being invite only.
We don’t want to be invited.
Do advertisers and sponsors know that their products and services risk being associated with pedophile forums when buying advertisement on reddit?
Would be fucking embarrassing to see my product in conjunction to pedophiles, just the idea that a screenshot could get posted to social media and there’s my brand next to a pedophile pro-tip thread
I mean, people on Twitter and Facebook might not understand that I didn’t have any control of that.
Do advertisers get the option for their products NOT to appear in a pedophile thread?
It’s pretty fucking scary to the credibility and reputation of my brand to know that my product could be associated to pedophilia when my ad runs on a reddit page.
HOW DO MEDIA BUYERS DEAL WITH THIS RISK TO THEIR CLIENT’S REPUTATIONS???
/u/jerryzzzz raised a good point.
Another point to be made is this: How would Reddit users feel if they knew that Reddit took money from a potential child abuser?
